Service Description

The Story of Turkish: How a Language Was Made Türkçenin Hikâyesi 10 weeks · 1 hour per week · open to all levels Turkish did not arrive at its present form by accident. From the steppe to an imperial language, from an alphabet changed almost overnight to a vocabulary deliberately rebuilt, this language has lived through one of the most radical linguistic transformations in history. This course tells that story: where Turkish came from, why it works so regularly, which words it borrowed from whom, and why some ideas have two words rather than one. This is not a grammar course; it is a course about the history, politics and logic behind the language. It is designed for anyone who has ever asked “but why is it like that?” — discussion is led largely in English, and you may join at any level. * The course starts during the first week of October and concludes in the second week of December, spanning 10 weeks (20 sessions). The exact days and times will be scheduled based on the availability of both the instructor and the learners. * Once learners enroll, Silk Road Academy will coordinate the class schedule, process payments, and manage administrative details. * Silk Road Academy can issue invoices so learners can request reimbursement from their affiliated universities or institutions. * Class days and times may be adjusted in accordance with the request of enrollees. * Registered participants will receive full access to recorded session videos and all course materials. Gökçe Karaoğlu holds a PhD in media and communications and an MA in management and economics from the University of Zurich (UZH), Switzerland, as well as a double major in business administration and media and visual arts from Koç University, Istanbul. Having taught communication courses at the university level, she incorporates an interdisciplinary perspective into her teaching practice. She is currently a researcher and translator for a specialized publishing house focused on the history of the book and book arts. In addition to her academic work, she is a dedicated bookbinder with a keen interest in the preservation of printed heritage.
