Turkish on Screen
Instructor: Dr. Gökçe Karaoğlu
Service Description
Turkish on Screen: Film, Series and How People Really Speak Perdedeki Türkçe 10 weeks · 1 hour per week · open to all levels Textbooks teach how people ought to speak; film and television show how they actually do. This course moves through Turkish cinema and drama to reach the living spoken language: how turns are taken at a family table, how an argument escalates, how affection is expressed — and why in Turkish tone often carries more than the words themselves. Each week we watch a short scene, work through it together and discuss the cultural code behind it. Scenes are supported with subtitles and discussion is led largely in English — you do not need advanced Turkish. * The course starts during the first week of October and concludes in the second week of December, spanning 10 weeks (20 sessions). The exact days and times will be scheduled based on the availability of both the instructor and the learners. * Once learners enroll, Silk Road Academy will coordinate the class schedule, process payments, and manage administrative details. * Silk Road Academy can issue invoices so learners can request reimbursement from their affiliated universities or institutions. * Class days and times may be adjusted in accordance with the request of enrollees. * Registered participants will receive full access to recorded session videos and all course materials. Gökçe Karaoğlu holds a PhD in media and communications and an MA in management and economics from the University of Zurich (UZH), Switzerland, as well as a double major in business administration and media and visual arts from Koç University, Istanbul. Having taught communication courses at the university level, she incorporates an interdisciplinary perspective into her teaching practice. She is currently a researcher and translator for a specialized publishing house focused on the history of the book and book arts. In addition to her academic work, she is a dedicated bookbinder with a keen interest in the preservation of printed heritage.
